Yes I did

let Jack eat breakfast sitting on the floor with his tray. Yes, that is his DVD player plugged in so he can watch a movie while he eats.

My former self would shiver at such an idea. But my former self did not know how delighted she would be to hear the words "Watch movie", "Sit on the wood", "Eat cereal", and "No. Over here."She did not know the excitement that would come from watching Jack try to carry his tray nearly spilling cereal all over the place so he could get closer to the movie player.

My former self was totally missing out!

Yeah, I don't care what any expert says....lol. Whatever got the food down their throats and kept the peace was just fiiiine with me! And they didn't turn out bad. :)

Love it! Yeah, we've done DVD meals when it's a special treat (which often coincides with Mommy needing a break). But wow! So great that he can advocate for himself that way.

And I remember allowing all sorts of things when we were trying to get E. to talk more- including lots and lots of junk food.

Marie, I'm guilty of doing this all of the time. Elliot loves to watch TV while he eats breakfast at his little table!I figure that fifteen minutes to a half an hour of TV with breakfast in the morning won't do too much damage. Besides, I use that time to finish getting ready, feed and potty the dog, and do the other many little things I need to do in the morning. It's a single mom survival strategy!

The thing is that Jack now knows we are so pleased with how he verbally expresses himself. He gets uber frustrated when he knows we understand what he says and he doesn't get it. I think for a while there he thought "If only I could speak the words..."

Awww... I totally agree..sometimes it's OK to break the rules ...breakfast and a movie is all good. My older sons had trays for that purpose when they were little..but when we became a bigger family..well we all eat at the table..but shhhh when Daddy leaves for work I do let Joe have his bun in the living room while watching his morning show...
