No matter how old the child is, and no matter how babyish the book is, like "Owl Babies" or even "Blue Hat, Green Hat"- all the kiddos gather around to listen. I resurrected a 25th anniversary of Sesame Street video and we couldn't stop watching it, even my 17 yr old son had fun listening to all the old songs he grew up on!!
thanks Marie for reminding us of the value of repetition in the learning process.
JulieAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5835940797892661941.post-89113414350522789602010-02-24T06:23:19.030-06:002010-02-24T06:23:19.030-06:00Wow...that's so true though. As the stories become more familiar (from hearing them again and again) he'll become more interested. Of course, interested does not equal sit still. He'll still be himself. :) Jack sits more as he matures but not too much.Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16158883265713752481noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5835940797892661941.post-14982180678617106932010-02-23T20:50:21.168-06:002010-02-23T20:50:21.168-06:00I read somewhere too that repetition is crucial in...I read somewhere too that repetition is crucial in order to be able to develop a sense of humour + perspective on things. I guess because often things that are unexpected can be funny? I forget what the theory was now.

Interesting though. Certainly we are creatures of habit in our house (although it's good to be able to deal with disruptions in routine too)Mary @ Parenthoodhttp://parenthood.phibian.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5835940797892661941.post-42428557917383929272010-02-23T20:32:55.644-06:002010-02-23T20:32:55.644-06:00So true Marie- even with Edie 3.5 going on 5.5 and...So true Marie- even with Edie 3.5 going on 5.5 and a very smart little girl, she loves to watch the same movies over and over and some favourite stories. I hadn't thought about the fact that it could be reassuring to have some things repeated due to the enormity of new things our little ones face every day!

Ira on the other hand at 1.5- doesn't seem at all interested in my reading to him- won't sit still. He's not even a fan of TV. This of course worries me!

Anyway- thanks so much for sharing

Maria xMaria - Ira's mumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16854281965392579103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5835940797892661941.post-58751422756549090322010-02-23T18:34:02.673-06:002010-02-23T18:34:02.673-06:00Wow, I never thought of that but this post is righ...Wow, I never thought of that but this post is right on the money! My daughter loved his books, as well as Goodnight Moon. Knowing what was ahead with each page turn is such a confidence booster!Momisodeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06752015177628948631noreply@blogger.com
