Step 1: Seat subject in front of lovely background and get him prepared for the shot.
*ahem* Prepared for the shot?
Alrighty then!
Step 2: Snap your lovely picture.
Uh....focus? Did I forget to mention focusing the camera?
Eh....if subject looks up at camera while sitting in front of lovely background and you've got him in focus, just snap the picture, his shirt got dirty before the photo session so you know you weren't going to send it out anyway he's so adorable he looks great smiling or not!

You got that in three?
Would have taken me a lot more than three.
He IS adorable. Even out of focus. Just call that one the 'arty' shot.
They are all perfect!
I know what you mean, photographing my three drives me to a bag of gummy bears everytime.
When our kids were little and I'd prepare and prepare for the annual christmas card, lol...my husband would get stomach aches because he knew how crazy I'd get. Whether it's one kid or three or 10....it's hard to get that perfect shot
The outtakes turn out to be much more interesting and fun. They tell a story.
LOVE those hanging hearts! Did you make those?
What a cool background--and a cutie pie subject! And it takes me about 225 shots to get a good picture with both of my kids smiling. I guess that number will be going up soon for three.
I hope everyone is feeling better!
Adorable.!!
Love the background.
It takes me a heck of a lot more than 3 or 4 shots sometimes i give up and retry later.
Great post Jack!
Too funny!
I could write a very similar tutorial!
Frankly, I didn't know it was possible to get a posed shot with kids. Congratulations. What a cutie.
Thanks, guys! The background is from the sweetheart dance at Jack's school.
I love it!! I shall definitely put this tutorial to good use!! :)
I love it!
One easter when child #3 was about 13 or 14 months old and (child #4 was not born yet) it took me two rolls of film to get about five good shots. :) They looked so nice as framed 8x10's. It was so worth the effort. :)♥
Wishing you and your family all the best.
